Boxed Lunches | How to Make Food and Drink Look Cute for Your Next Occasion

Boxed lunches are the perfect way to make food and drink look cute for your next occasion!

Whether it’s a picnic box, birthday food box, or even boxed lunch catering for a party, the possibilities are endless when it comes to making food and drink look creative and fun.

I recently pulled this off for my daughter’s 11th birthday party which took place at a Kendra Scott jewelry store, and it was a huge hit.

Instead of the iconic Breakfast at Tiffany’s, we opted for lunch at Kendra Scott, where the girls had the chance to create their own jewelry at the Kendra Scott Color Bar™.

Since we were far from home and didn’t want to risk the hassle of finding a nearby restaurant, I decided to create something that went perfectly with the theme of the party and was sure to satisfy the girls.

I wanted a lunch solution that fit the occasion but also catered to their young tastebuds.

That’s when I came up with the idea of making cute boxed lunches.

These meal boxes not only made the food and drink easy to transport but also allowed me to create something visually stunning and tailored to the fun, chic vibes of the event.

I packed these cute picnic boxes with all the food and drink I knew the girls would love.

I essentially created a charcuterie board box to go, ensuring they had a memorable meal experience to complement their jewelry-creating activity.

Here’s how you can recreate the magic for your own special occasion.

The Basics: Creating Your Boxed Lunches

For my daughter’s birthday party, I used sturdy black food boxes as my base.

These boxes were perfect for food delivery packaging, offering enough room for all the treats we needed while also being easy for the girls to hold.

The boxes were strong and stylish, making them perfect for picnic boxes, picnic grazing box ideas, and of course my charcuterie board box to go.

I filled them with crinkle paper to create a festive base and hold everything perfectly together.

Filling Your Picnic Box: Food and Drink Ideas

The beauty of these meal boxes is how versatile they are.

For this event, I created a picnic charcuterie box with delicious options for everyone. I used separate containers inside the box for different treats.

One with cheese, crackers, and salami and another with fresh fruit.

You can also get creative with cute picnic snack ideas like mini sandwiches or bite-sized treats.

For the drinks, I included colorful sodas with fun paper straws, making it easy for guests to enjoy while staying on theme.

Clear plastic cups containing mini charcuterie boards, featuring slices of cheddar and colby jack cheese, crackers, and rolled salami arranged elegantly for single servings.

Adding the Personal Touch to Your Meal Box

The key to making these cute boxed lunches extra special was adding personalized touches.

I included a little fortune inside each box, which was a delightful surprise for the kids.

And to be honest, what adult wouldn’t love having a fortune tucked in their picnic box too?

These fortunes that come in so many adorable themes.

I chose the “shine” theme because it went perfectly with my jewelry-themed birthday party.

To tie the boxes into the overall party aesthetic, I design a custom sticker in Canva, printed it through Fox Print, and placed it on the lid of each box.

My boxes came with a ribbon that I used to tie them together, but you could easily replace it with one of your own to match the colors or theme of your occasion.

Another way to add a personal touch is by including a napkin in a coordinating color, scheme, or fun pattern to match your event.

It’s these little details that make these cute boxed lunches feel like a truly special catering box packaging experience – DIY style.

How to Recreate These Cute Boxed Lunches

Here’s a quick guide to what I used to create my birthday food box idea, which you can easily recreate for you own event.

  • Sturdy Food Boxes: Start with durable boxes that are strong enough to hold your food and easy for guests to carry. You want something that can withstand a bit of weight without being flimsy.
  • Crinkle Paper: Use this to line the bottom of the boxes for a fun and practical touch that keeps everything in place.
  • Containers for Food: Use these smaller containers to keep everything organized, like for your charcuterie board box to go or antipasto box ideas.
  • Drinks: Don’t forget the cute sodas or pretty water bottles and add a fun straw to make everything feel extra festive and color coordinated.
  • Personal Touches: Add stickers to the top of each box for a custom look. Include cute picnic snack ideas, like chocolates, candies, or even little treats like homemade cookies wrapped in glassine bags. And don’t forget the fun fortune! Including this small surprise inside each box adds that extra special touch that your guests will love.

By combining these elements, you can create cute boxed lunches that are not only practical but also a fun, personal part of your event that guests will remember long after the day is over.

In fact, one of the girls at my daughter’s birthday party took her empty meal box home as a keepsake, clearly she was impressed by the thoughtfulness and presentation-proof that these picnic boxes make an impact!
