I’m spilling the beans in this blog post and sharing my tips and tricks for a gorgeous, lush floral bouquet using these incredible blooms!
Peonies are my absolute favorite flower.
When we built our home back in 2017 there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to incorporate peonies into our landscaping.
And lots of them!
We have Coral Charm peonies, whose buds start out a vibrant orange then fade to a beautiful salmon color to a pretty cream and eventually to a soft white with a golden center.
We also have the white Charles White peonies and pink Sarah Bernhardt peonies.
On my wish list is the phenomenal yellow Yumi peonies for a perfect sherbet rainbow.
There is nothing quite like a splendid peony arrangement in your home to brighten up your day.
So whether you pick your peonies from your yard, buy them at the farmer’s market, or get them from the grocery store – yet them{!} and use my secret for the perfect arrangement.

Selecting the Right Vase
When arranging peonies, I always use a slightly larger vase to accommodate their giant blooms.
This ensures they have enough space to spread out and shine.
Below is a round up of vases perfect for these spring/summer showstoppers.

Add a Splash of Sprite
Yes, you read that right!
My secret ingredient for keeping peonies well hydrated is adding a splash of Sprite.
I know this may come as a surprise but the soda contains sugar and citric acid which helps to nourish the flower and keeps them well-hydrated.
Use the Sprite (roughly 2 teaspoons) in lieu of traditional flower food.
Cutting the Stems
To maximize water absorption, I cut the peony stems at a 45-degree angle.
This creates a larger surface area for the stems to take in water.
It’s crucial to use sharp floral scissors to make a clean cut, preventing any damage to the stems.
Vary the Stem Length
For added interest, I vary the length of the stems.
This creates a dynamic and visually appealing arrangement.
I also like to add in a little greenery to provide even more texture and movement.
My favorites additions are any variety of eucalyptus and bupleurum.
Water and Care
I change the water daily to keep the arrangement fresh.
Each time adding in the splash of Sprite.
To keep the bacteria out, you can add tiny drops of bleach to the water, but be careful to not add to much, as it can be damaging to your arrangement.
Additionally if your blooms come from your garden you many want to soak the stems in your tub or sink for 15 minutes before arranging to help get rid of any pesky bugs or ants.
Always, always, always remove any leaves that will be submerged in water to prevent bacterial growth.
To extend the life of your peony arrangement, keep it out of direct sunlight as the sun can cause the blooms to wilt prematurely.
Color and Bloom Variety
For dimension and depth, I choose a variety of peony colors – as I mentioned, coral, white and pink are what I have in my own garden.
I also like to include blooms in varying stages of blooming from small buds to blooms the size of my hand!
This mix adds richness and complexity to the arrangement.
