DIY Karaoke Party Favors Kids Won’t Toss (QR Code Playlist)

If you’re tired of party favors that get tossed the second kids get home from a party, these DIY karaoke party favors with a QR code playlist are a total game changer.

Initially, when I started searching for karaoke party favors, everything felt… well, basic. Like, “Here’s a plastic microphone and some candy, good luck” basic.

Pass.

My daughter Sloan’s 12th birthday called for something cooler — something the girls would actually enjoy after the party.

The theme was “Let’s Glow Crazy,” and instead of another throwaway goodie bag, I made karaoke party favors with a QR code that links to a custom playlist called “Let’s Glow Crazy.”

Each favor said:
“Sweet treats + party beats — scan to hear Sloan’s playlist.”

They went home with candy and a playlist they could keep listening to later.

This idea works for kids, tweens, teens, and even adults — karaoke parties, rockstar parties, pop star parties, concert-themed parties… honestly, any music-themed celebration.

It took about 30 minutes to assemble once the stickers arrived and cost about the same as traditional goodie bags — but unlike plastic microphones, the kids actually used it afterward.

Gold star for me.

Oh, and I have to mention: I love putting candy in acrylic boxes.

It gives the favors a boutique, almost “fancy candy shop” feel — you can read all about when I first did this here.

What You’ll Need

Here’s what I used:

Optional alternative: Don’t want stickers? No worries. You can also print QR codes on thank-you tags and tie them onto treat bags. Or stick them on glow sticks.

Step 1: Create Your Karaoke Playlist (Let the Birthday Kid Pick!)

Full honesty: I didn’t make the playlist — Sloan did.

Let’s face it, at 12, and she’s wayyyy cooler than me.

I had no say.

None.

Nada.

And honestly?

That’s fine — the playlist turned out amazing.

If you’re doing a kids or tween party, letting them help build the playlist is part of the fun.

They’ll be way more excited to scan the QR code later if they helped pick the songs.

If you’re doing an adult karaoke party, you’ve got two options:

  • Crowd-pleasing karaoke hits everyone knows (don’t worry, nobody judges your 80s hairband choices)
  • Songs that mean something to the group (throwbacks, inside jokes, or that song that got stuck in everyone’s head on that road trip)

How to create the playlist on Spotify:

  1. Open the app
  2. Create a new playlist
  3. Name it (example: “Let’s Glow Crazy – Karaoke Night”)
  4. Add your songs
  5. Set it to Public or Unlisted
  6. Copy the playlist link

Popular karaoke-style songs that work for mixed ages:

  • “Don’t Stop Believin’”
  • “Shake It Off”
  • “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”
  • “Sweet Caroline”
  • “Livin’ on a Prayer”
  • “Party in the USA”
  • “Uptown Funk”

Step 2: Turn Your Playlist Link Into a QR Code (Free Tools)

Turning your playlist link into a QR code is basically magic and takes about 60 seconds. Use one of these free tools:

How to Generate a QR Code in Canva (free)

  1. Open Canva Go to canva.com and open and start a new design.
  2. Find the QR Code tool On the left sidebar, click Apps → scroll or search for QR Code.
  3. Paste your link Drop in the URL from Spotify.
  4. Generate Click Generate QR Code. Canva will create it and place it on your design.
  5. Resize & place Drag the corners to size it and position it where you want. Keep it big enough to scan easily.
  6. Download Click Share → Download (PNG or PDF works great for print).
  7. Test Make it on your phone (because nothing screams “party fail” like a QR code that won’t scan)

Step 3: Design Your QR Code Sticker

I designed mine in Canva and uploaded it to Vistaprint to have stickers made.

Mine said: “Sweet treats + party beats — Scan to hear Sloan’s playlist.”

Keep the design simple so the QR code scans easily.

Don’t shrink it too small (aim for at least ~1 inch on print).

Feel free to match your party colors if you want extra style points, but readability > fancy fonts every time.

Step 4: Assemble the DIY Karaoke Party Favors

Once the stickers arrived, I made 18 party favors in about 30 minutes.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Filled each 2.6 x 2.6 acrylic box with bright sour gummies (pro tip: 1.5 bags of 4.5lbs candy filled my 18 boxes)
  2. Stick the QR code sticker on the front
  3. Tie a ribbon around each box

I displayed them on the party table and handed them out as the girls left.

It looked cute during the party and felt like a fun send-off.

By the time we finished cleaning up and got home, we could already see activity on the playlist — some of the girls had started listening that same night.

Not to mention we got a text from one of the moms that the candy was so good she and her daughter finished it off before they pulled into their driveway!

Why These Karaoke Party Favors Actually Work

  • The playlist lives on after the party
  • It works for kids, tweens, teens, and adults
  • It’s personal without being complicated
  • It doesn’t turn into plastic junk
  • It doubles as decor and a favor
  • Candy in acrylic boxes gives it that boutique, “oh wow” factor

Basically, the party didn’t really end when they left — they took the music (and the neon gummies) with them.

FAQ: QR Code Karaoke Party Favors

Do QR codes expire? Nope. As long as your playlist link stays active, your QR code will keep working. Reuse it for future parties by swapping in a new playlist.

What if someone doesn’t have Spotify? They’ll be prompted to open it in a browser or download the app. You can also use other music apps if you prefer — QR codes are cool like that.

Do I have to use stickers? Nope. Stickers are easiest and cleanest, but you can attach QR codes to thank-you tags, treat bags, glow sticks, or even a guitar pick if you’re feeling extra.

How far in advance should I make these? Order stickers about two weeks ahead to ensure they arrive in time. Once everything arrives, assembly is about 30 minutes.

Common mistakes to avoid:

  • Don’t make the QR code too small — it won’t scan easily
  • Always test the QR code on multiple phones before ordering stickers
  • Keep strong contrast between the QR code and background
  • Make sure your playlist is Public or Unlisted so guests can access it

Final Thoughts on These DIY Karaoke Party Favors

These DIY karaoke party favors were such a hit at Sloan’s birthday party — the girls loved taking home the playlist, and I loved how quick and easy they were to assemble.

This idea works for kids, tweens, teens, and even adult parties, and it’s one of those favors that actually gets used instead of ending up in a drawer.

The QR code adds a fun, interactive twist, and letting the birthday kid help create the playlist means I get to look cool without actually doing anything.

Plus, the acrylic boxes filled with candy give the favors a boutique touch, and the bulk candy made filling 18 favors both affordable and easy.

I can’t wait to see how you make this idea your own for your next music-themed celebration!
