Birthday Boo Basket: Free Happy Boo Day Gift Tags
My daughter’s friend is turning 13, and her October birthday party this weekend is all about the season — a trip to the pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, and plenty of cozy fun.
My daughter wanted to put together a little something extra for her (I wonder where she gets it?!), and a birthday boo basket seemed like the perfect fit.
A few favorite treats, something cozy, a little something fun… and a whole lot of fall personality.
I especially love using gift tags in place of cards for kids’ gifts.
You can put that few extra dollars toward the gift itself, and a good-sized gift tag still gives you plenty of room to write a personal note on the back.
Plus, when you’re giving a gift with a little personality, I think the tag should have some personality, too.
So, naturally, I started designing.

A Little Happy Boo Day Surprise
An October birthday is the perfect excuse to give a traditional birthday gift a little Halloween twist.
That’s how these Happy Boo Day gift tags came to be.
I made four different designs, each featuring a party-ready little ghost.
One is holding a birthday present, another has a party horn, one is carrying balloons, and one is holding a birthday banner.
They’re cute, festive, and perfect for a birthday boo basket.

Free Gift Tags for Your Birthday Boo Basket
If you’re putting together a birthday boo basket for a friend, these tags are an easy way to finish the gift.
Print them on cardstock, cut them out, and tie one onto your basket with ribbon, twine, or whatever you have on hand.
And because they’re a good size, there’s plenty of room on the back for a handwritten birthday message.
You’ve already done the fun part of choosing all the goodies.
Let me help you finish it off with a gift tag that feels just as special as what’s inside.

Birthday Boo Basket Ideas
If you’re looking for a little inspiration for what to put inside, here are a few ideas to get you started.
The fun thing about a birthday boo basket is that there really isn’t a formula.
You can make it as simple or as full as you want.
When creating a boo basket for her, I’d lean into cozy, cute, and festive rather than making everything strictly Halloween-themed.
And don’t forget about the basket itself!
The container can be part of the gift, too.
I found a cute pink and green tote for ours that felt perfect for the season, and it’s something her friend can actually use long after the last piece of Halloween candy is gone.
A cute tote bag, makeup bag, planter, storage bin, or even a fun wastebasket can become part of the gift.
Instead of thinking of the container as something you have to buy just to hold the gifts, look for something the birthday girl might actually want to keep and use.
Then you can fill it with a few things she’ll love:
- Cozy socks or slippers
- A soft throw blanket
- A cute glass, tumbler, or mug
- Favorite candy or snacks
- Lip gloss or other little beauty finds
- A journal or cute notebook
- A small gift card
- A fall or Halloween-themed treat
- A little plush
- Craft or art supplies
- Candles
- Hair Accessories
You don’t have to fill every inch.
One or two things that feel especially personal, mixed with a few smaller treats, can make a really cute birthday gift.
If you need a little extra height or want to fill some empty space, just add some tissue paper or shredded paper underneath.

Where to Find Cute Boo Basket Fillers
Some of my favorite places to shop for gift basket fillers are Target, Five Below, HomeGoods, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx.
And fall is one of my favorite times to browse those stores.
Their seasonal sections are packed with cozy blankets, mugs, glasses, socks, candles, candy, little beauty finds, and all kinds of things that can make a gift basket feel much more special and seasonal.
Of course you can also find plenty of options on Amazon if you’re looking for something specific or don’t have time to hunt around.
My favorite approach is to mix a few inexpensive finds with one or two things that feel especially personal to the recipient.
It doesn’t have to be expensive to feel special.

A Birthday Gift With a Little Fall Personality
I think that’s what makes a birthday boo basket so fun.
It’s not really about following a list of things you’re supposed to put inside.
It’s about taking a birthday gift and making it feel like their birthday — in this case, a 13th birthday that happens to fall right in the middle of pumpkin patch and pumpkin-carving season.
And sometimes, all it takes is a cute little tag to pull it all together.
